The company is a well-established and rapidly growing direct lender seeking an experienced Chief Credit & Risk Officer to lead credit risk management and portfolio strategy. As the executive leader overseeing credit functions, you will drive strategy, safeguard portfolio performance, and ensure compliance across the organization. This is a highly visible role reporting directly to senior leadership, with responsibility for managing credit operations end-to-end and shaping the companys future growth.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the companys credit risk management strategy in alignment with overall business objectives and risk appetite
  • Oversee underwriting, processing, credit operations, and funding teams, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and adherence to policies
  • Provide strategic guidance on complex, high-value credit decisions and chair or participate in Credit Committee reviews
  • Leverage data analytics, modeling, and predictive tools to enhance credit decisioning and portfolio performance
  • Mentor and develop a high-performing team of credit professionals, promoting accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth
  • Design, implement, and enforce credit policies that meet regulatory requirements and align with industry best practices
  • Identify and mitigate credit risks while supporting responsible business expansion
  • Partner with internal stakeholdersincluding Finance and Executive Leadershipon capital planning, portfolio alignment, and performance reporting
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable regulatory standards, preparing the organization for audits and external reviews
  • Deliver timely reporting on credit metrics, portfolio health, and risk exposure to inform executive decision-making

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in credit risk management, including B2B lending, C&I, or other relevant financial services
  • 10+ years of leadership experience managing large, cross-functional credit teams
  • Proven track record leading credit risk at the executive level, with expertise in portfolio management, policy development, and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrated ability to implement data-driven credit strategies that balance growth with strong risk controls
  • Bachelors degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or related field required; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred
